After a long battle the asbestos legal framework led to a partial ban on the manufacturing of, processing, or distribution of the majority of asbestos-containing products. This ban remains in place.
The December 2020 final TSCA risk assessment for chrysotile asbestos identified excessive health risks for humans for all ongoing use of Chrysotile asbestos. The April 2019 rule bans the return of asbestos products to commerce.
Legislation
Asbestos laws are controlled at the federal and state levels in the United States. The US uses asbestos in a range of products even though the majority of industrialized nations have banned asbestos. The federal government regulates the use of asbestos in these products as well as regulates asbestos litigation. State asbestos laws may differ from one state to another however federal laws are generally uniform. These laws restrict the rights of those who have suffered asbestos-related injuries.
